A hand held up in passing gesture. Hello. Goodbye.

The language of a lively limb – animated arm
A greeting that can acknowledge another's presence

or call for silence

or to deny
In physics, a wave function contains all the accessible information about a quantum particle. A projection of probability - could a wave function in a similar way through gesture? Ambiguous, undefined, potential.

The existing world collapses; an unfixable flux.

To a planet, a seed. To an understanding, evading. To life, death. To a cat, both.

You raise your hand up, palm outwards toward me from across a space of about 12 feet after I’ve made a joke about oxytocin and walked away. I don’t know what you mean by it. I suppose that it’s goodbye at a glance but that feels wrong and your fingers don’t really move. Your arm quickly slouches down to your side as you look at the floor, aggrieved. Dejected. It’s a pathetic gesture; a withering wave. Sorrow pulls your face and in that moment I really fucking hate you.

I turn and continue walking.

Whenever I watch a half hearted swell fail to break over the surface it reminds me of you and makes me hate you all over again.

Withering.

I contemplate the beginning of such gestures – when a baby's fat arm holds itself up and outward, reaching out to the world. Jiggling in joyful gesture or agitated wanting
Mimicry of movement – from a grasp to a greeting
A wave is still trying to take; cresting its expectation on the air.

A wave is a way.

A way of greeting and goodbye. Inclusion and rejection. Erasure and disclosure.
